The Backpacking Nurse Departs
HI I’m Pat, I’ve worked as a Registered Nurse for the past 4 years, spending the past 2.5 years working in a busy ER department. This position is challenging in so many ways, but I have been able to thrive in it. I can’t say enough good things about the staff I’ve had the opportunity to work with.
I have resigned from my full-time RN position, with no departmental opportunity to take a leave of absence in the fall and no room for me to squeeze onto the casual list, I am now happily unemployed.
I’m overcome with excitement, the world is mine to see, I’ve saved up enough money to travel with no specific timeline, nowhere I need to go, just going to go with the flow and plan as I go.
I have a passion for travelling, I love seeing new places, meeting new people and finding new adventures. I have been able to backpack my way around the world three times. A few years ago I got hooked onto travelling. In 2012, I booked a ticket two days in advance and backpacked through Europe for 3.5 weeks. I travelled through China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand in 2013. Asia is an amazing continent, so much to see and do! Last year in 2015 I travelled through Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. With other experiences in Mexico, USA and Cuba I have been able to trek my way through 19 countries.
A while back I set a personal goal for myself to travel through 25 different countries by the time I am twenty-five years old. I will make it to 25 countries and I started this blog to bring you along on this adventure with me. Travelling has enriched my life with cultural experiences throughout the world and I want to share my ongoing stories with interested people.
It took a lot of deliberation to figure out my first destination. After mulling it over for a while I decided on Kathmandu, Nepal. I intend on hiking to Mount Everest base camp, relaxing and perhaps some volunteering, I will be departing April 11th and arriving on April 12th spending about a month in Nepal, The flight is 27 hours, which isn’t too bad considering I will be travelling to the other side of the world from Toronto, Canada.
Stay tuned, I will be posting regularly when internet is accessible.
